Pattern Work Diary Thursday 24th September 2015

During the lesson today on the 24th September 2015, our task was set to take images on the formal element, pattern whilst going out into town. In this lesson I learned the simple ways which nature shows us patterns, ways that we normally pass of when walking around everyday.

A photo I don't like:
Even though the leaves are repeated across the whole photo, I do not like this image. The reason for this is because it is out of focus and the angle of the plants are off. Also I don't like this image because there is something behind the leaves which I don't know what it is. I think this takes of the focus as its mainly all green yet the object isn't. Additionally, I don't like this image because the leaves are all different sizes and I think the best pattern images, all shapes need to be that same size.

A photo I do like:
I really like the repeated pattern of the bikes in this image. Even though it would be better if the bikes that weren't brightly coloured weren't in it, I still like this photo. I believe the focus is very good into showing this element. Alongside the angle, pattern is shown right across this photo and I really like it. If someone was to look at it, I believe it would catch someones eye. The pattern would still be seen if it was black and white and would even fit in with the bikes in the background.

Progression:
If I were to re-do this photo shoot, I would make sure that everything I took an image of for pattern, would be the same size and in a good order. I would also make pattern the only focus point in the whole photo- so the pattern would cover the entire image. If given this chance, I would take photos of more natural elements to show pattern, yet unlike the one above, cover the whole frame. Images below are ones I have seen online and have got inspiration which I would use if I done this again:
