4th plinth straight images

To create my 4th plinth image I placed my chosen object- a dinosaur- on to a photo I took at the weekend at London. As I shot the dinosaur in the studio, it was quite bright, but where I wanted it in the photo, everywhere was shadowed so it didn't look right. So to solve this I put masks on my layer such as curves and changing the saturation. This made the dinosaur much dark and more "in place". When I selected the object it originally had a line from the background all the way around it, to result this problem I used a feather to ease away this line.

landscape straight images Ansel Adams

These photos were inspired by Ansel Adams, his work is shown on a previous blog post.
The screen shot on the left here shows the "levels" of my last image. This shows the Zone system is really clear here and is also a key concept of my photo. Like most of his work, I used the dodge tool at the corners, varying it on the photo, sometimes I made it darker. On the first image on this blog I put the dodge on the right because this was the angle of the depth. These photos consists on the elements of leading lines and depth (these are the key ones anyway). I think the dodge works on all these images, apart from the 3rd photo as it is a head on photo- perhaps the dodge on this one should have been along the bottom.

Within this lesson, my photos were all the same camera settings. Even though I should have experimented with a variety of different setting, I really liked the outcomes of these images. I picked these ones as my top 5 because I really like how even if I edited them in black and white or left it in colour, the highlighted part compared to the shadowed part is so dominate. I also like the way that even though my background was white, due to the fact I aimed the light at my subjects instead of the background, there was no reflecting off it, creating a much darker background.
