Shape in town work diary Tuesday 13th October 2015

During the lesson of Tuesday the 13th October 2015, our task was much like the prior lessons that we have had, although this time our task was to capture image showing the element of shape.

We can see shapes in many ways in our everyday life, whether is simple and clear shapes (like the image on the left), or just subtle hints given to us through nature (like the image on the right). Shapes make up everything. Everything has an outline, everything is a shape. Given the task of shape seemed rather great! Yet this task was surprisingly challenging. I believe for shape to be shown in it's best way, light needs to be a very key element, much like all the other elements I have done so far.
I actually found capturing shapes rather hard because I wasn't able to find that many photos, although I did learn how you can change the shapes of something depending on the angle you take the photos. Through the two lessons on shape, I learnt techniques with my camera this included the angles making shadowing and then also I learnt the importance on editing to make a shape more dominate. I also learnt in this lesson that a photo doesn't need to be overly complicated, even the simplest photo of shape can be interpreted as art.

A photo I don't like...
Even though this image shows shape in a subtle way, I don't like this photo. I believe this building is a good way of showing geometrical shape however I believe it's too off in the corner- it would look better if you could see more of the image. I also do not like how far away this image is taken from the building- it would be better if it was bigger yet not all of the screen.

Progression...
If I was given the chance to re-do this, I feel like this photo shows an example of what I need to improve. The leaves cover the main ends of the shoes- to improve the shoes need to be more clear. I would do this with all my own images as well, I would make sure the shape I'm trying to show would be the most dominate in the image. This could be by making the shape the darkest/lightest or the biggest focus point. Photos below show my inspiration in changing my work if given the chance to...

A photo I do like...
This is a photo that I took on this shoot that I do really like because I believe at first glimpse, the main shape would be the foot shape, yet looking further you can see many of shapes within the shoe itself- whether is squares or rectangles. Another reason I like this is because the main focus is the shapes and nothing takes off the focus of this.
